Internet marketing shouldn’t cost an arm and a leg
When you enter into the world of Internet marketing, there are a lot of choices out there. I want to write about what has been the clear choice for us.
Now initially I believed (as many of you may), that it would be easy to use one of the large website hosting companies and in fact used one. What I didn’t expect was what they had hidden in terms of costs. I soon discovered that my Internet marketing campaign needs could be met by simply shifting over to some other services such as WordPress, Google Sites or Weebly – a much less complicated, inexpensive and full-featured solution.
Hidden fees drive up your Internet marketing campaign bills, not your traffic
If you’re doing your own Internet marketing campaign, here’s a list of the main questions for your site when you purchase a domain name:
- Is your plan self-hosted or the hosting is already included?
- Do you have unlimited, full access to your domain settings?
- Are you protected from hackers and spam?
- Are your contact information (when you are registering a domain name) protected?
The large hosting companies lure you in with the promise an extremely cheap domain name registeration, but they have extra charges for the list above. Say you want to have a .com address rather than a .info: that’s extra. Access to your domain configuration: that’s extra. Email accounts based on your domain: extra. Protect your contact information? EXTRA. Suddenly, Internet marketing doesn’t seem so appealing, does it?
Why WordPress might be a good choice for your Internet marketing campaign
It’s simple to use. Start by registering your domain name with Google (We have described it in detail on Where, What and How to Register a Domain Name). Pay to have that site link directly to your WordPress site and you’re done. With $99 per year you will have 10Gb hosting space and premium version on wordpress.com
TIP: it’s important for Internet marketing campaigns to work that Google find you based on your domain name, not the hosting company’s site. So use some service providers like wordpress.com as a foundation service and build your empire on your own domain name.
No hidden fees and:
- Total access to your domain settings
- Plug-ins that offer you protection from spam (a must-have for not only an Internet marketing property, but for all your websites)
- Access to your footers so you can add any code (for analytics) once, rather than on each single page (a huge time saver)
- Plug-ins to install social media buttons (another should-have for your wordpress website)
- Email accounts (if you get your domain at Google)
With the right approach to Internet marketing, you’re your own daddy
I’m speaking from personal (and professional) Internet marketing experience. When it comes to the “big” hosting companies, you get what you pay for. But you have to pay for everything you get.
TIP: For (only) Canadians who need a small hosting plan (50 MB) and test monthly bandwidth (200 MB), 10looniehost.ca offers you a FREE plan. Even if you require more self-hosting plans, it’s still cheaper than others.
If you’re doing your own Internet marketing, the Devil is in the details
And by details, I mean >fees. Large hosting companies don’t disclose the hidden fees in the details of their service. So many customers are roped into the promise of simple Internet marketing solutions, and then have to suffer the Devil: extra fees and a long list of offers.
Don’t be fooled by ads, you need something more for your campaign
There’s more to your needs than they sell you. And those hidden fees can bite you in the end.
TIP: Links and embedded images/videos are the solution for savings on your bandwidth. Internet marketing depends on having great content. But videos and content can be huge, so link to them on YouTube and save your bandwidth.
Internet marketing means you have to get involved
Even though these other sites advertise a “one-stop solution”, a little research can go a long way.
But don’t get deterred by the research. You can DIY for less. Keep digging and you’ll find the gold that Internet marketing research can deliver. And kick the Devil right in the ads.
